About The Laconic Times
The Laconic Times is a cybersecurity guide site for the IT managers and security leads who run mid-sized networks, and for the sysadmins and developers who report to them. Each post takes one subject and stays useful past the week it was written: what a class of vulnerability is and how it gets exploited, what a control does and how to put it in place, what a compliance rule requires and by when, or how a named incident happened once the facts are in. Every post ends on what to do about it now.
Every claim is sourced. We cite CISA, NIST, the vendor advisory, the regulator, the court filing or the researcher who found it, and we link to the primary source so you can check it yourself. We do not reprint vendor marketing, we do not grade products, and we do not publish copy a security team could not act on. When a detail is unconfirmed, we say so and say who is reporting it.
Our sections follow the way a security desk is organised. Vulnerabilities explains the flaw classes and the patching discipline that answers them. Breaches explains how disclosed intrusions happened and what to check on your own network. Ransomware covers how the crews operate and how to prepare, detect and recover. Advisories turns CISA, NCSC, ENISA and vendor bulletins into checklists. Policy explains the regulation, the deadlines and the enforcement that binds you. Vendors covers the platforms most mid-sized companies depend on. Research explains the techniques that will matter next.
The daily headlines are on the wire, updated every hour, so you can see what broke today beside the guide that explains it. If a post would not change what you do at work, we did not write it.
